Harvard FAS CAMLab is devoted to supporting an internship program each year according to project capacity. CAMLab invites each cohort to explore the host of active projects and identify matches based on their interests and specialties. Applications for the Internship Program of 2025 are now open.
Harvard FAS CAMLab provides internship opportunities to participate in the lab’s innovative and interdisciplinary method for bringing together humanistic research and multisensorial technologies. CAMLab invites each cohort to develop their individual interests and skill sets, as well as to gain in-depth knowledge of the inner workings of an experimental media lab on a world-renowned university campus. Working under the mentorship of CAMLab staff, the interns will have the opportunity to participate in one core practice area at CAMLab, including immersive multimedia exhibitions, art films, online exhibitions, digital art installations, AI-generated art projects, development strategies, and educational programs.
This year the Summer Internship Program will take place for 4 weeks in June 2025 at CAMLab’s physical hub, offering participants an in-person experience on Harvard’s campus with access to a wealth of resources across the university. This unpaid internship is designed to provide participants with early-career professional experience and serve as an entry point that offers exposure to interdisciplinary fields of media practice.

About this focus
CAMLab Researchers participate in the most formative phase of CAMLab projects—understanding historical phenomena and identifying the narrative, cosmological, and cultural aspects to be elucidated with digital media. Research Interns will learn about processes such as surveying extant literature; liaising with archives, libraries, and collections; aggregating and organizing raw data; drafting written content for educational purposes; and preparing publications. Research Interns will also grow their presentation skills through developing formal presentations that present and analyze research findings. This internship focus provides a pre-professional opportunity to translate intellectual undertakings into practical applications and develop from thinkers into doers.
Qualifications
- Exposure through coursework to major research tools including online databases, in-library catalogues, and/or film and photo archives.
- Would be a plus if the person has previous experience communicating with institutional collections.
- Knowledge of GIS, museum databases, and/or and advanced search functionality for library collections a plus.
- Fluent in English; bilingual in English and another language of interest to CAMLab’s projects (such as Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Sanskrit, Farsi, Urdu, etc.) preferred.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
About this focus
CAMLab XR Designers drive the digital scenographic strategy for and technical vision of CAMLab projects. Through liaising with CAMLab Researchers, XR Designers identify critical technologies and digital contexts for CAMLab projects. XR Design Interns will gain exposure to CAMLab’s production pipelines, from liaising with concept artists to storyboarding, developing 3D models and spatial designs, and drafting low-fidelity designs for XR contexts and/or interactive features. XR Design Interns will also participate in conducting user research, executing testing in qualitative and quantitative ways, and brainstorming user journeys. This internship offers exposure to the gamut of AR, VR, MR, Computer-generated art, XR, CGI, interactive, and UI/UX content development.
Qualifications
- Experience with Cinema 4D, Unreal Engine/Unity, and/or Blender.
- Proficiency in one or more 3D design softwares (Rhino, Blender, Enscape, CAD, Maya, and/or Grasshopper).
- Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Premier, After Effects, Illustrator).
- Up-to-speed regarding how to create interoperable content for AR, VR, and MR contexts.
- Demonstrated creativity in visual storytelling.
- Architectural design training is a plus.
About this focus
CAMLab’s Visual Designers support a diverse range of content production, including graphic design, interaction design, and digital marketing design, covering digital interfaces, publications, and posters. This internship will provide an interdisciplinary collaboration opportunity to experience close-range production and design operations that are essential for achieving artistic project goals. Interns will have extensive exposure to Design Thinking methodologies as they are applied in CAMLab projects. Interns will furthermore learn about the processes of starting from a concept design to deliver low- and high-fidelity prototype flows, articulating engaging digital experiences. Interns will enhance their abilities to embed user-centric thinking into the design process, balancing the aesthetics and functionality with design goals. Interns will explore the fields of interactive design, game design, UI/UX design, physical computing, and digital fabrication.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated artistic skills, creativity, and/or talent for visual storytelling.
- Experience with Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Premier, After Effects, Illustrator).
- Strong knowledge of Figma and UI/UX design.
- Knowledge of Blender is a plus.
- Excellent communication and team-working skills.
- Creative and able to work independently to drive projects forward.
About this focus
CAMLab Sound Designers participate in the creation, production, presentation, and dissemination of audio content to support the viewing and understanding of CAMLab’s projects and exhibitions, both physically and digitally. Sound Design Interns will experience processes of liaising with concept artists; writing and organizing audio storyboards and scripts; mixing, editing, and composing music scores; and collaborating with other technical teams to implement sound into multimedia experiences. This internship offers the opportunity to apply training in the performing arts, filmmaking, and other artistic areas to digital creative practice and develop team-building experience.
Qualifications
- Proficient in DAWs (digital audio workstations) such as Pro Tools, Logic, Nuendo/Cubase, Adobe Premiere, Ableton Live, or similar. Knowledge of Max/MSP is a plus.
- Background in audio production for video, such as films, radio programs, television shows, or video games.
- Music performance training is a plus.
- Experience with sound design, music production, and audiovisual interaction is a plus.
- Knowledge of Dante and/or Python is a plus.
- Excellent communication and teamworking skills.
- Creative and able to work independently to drive projects forward.
About this focus
The CAMLab Marketing Team oversees the development and operations of CAMLab’s social media presence and marketing campaigns that enhance CAMLab’s brand visibility, drive audience growth, and foster engagement across various platforms. Interns can be involved in the following areas: strategizing innovative marketing campaigns; researching and analyzing marketing case studies; monitoring social media feedback and interactions; utilizing analytics to propose strategies for improved engagement; and liaising with CAMLab Designers to generate content. This internship offers exposure to cross-channel coordination across WeChat, Xiaohongshu, Instagram, email newsletters, and print materials.
Qualifications
- Experience or strong interest in marketing, social media management, or public relations, preferably in an arts or cultural institution setting.
- Proficient in managing and creating content for social media platforms such as WeChat, Instagram, and/or Xiaohongshu.
- Knowledge of data analytics and/or social media APIs a plus.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, presentation, and writing skills.
- Positive, creative, and entrepreneurial attitude.
About this focus
The CAMLab Education Team contributes to the planning and execution of a wide range of both onsite and virtual programs. These public programs provide our audiences from around the globe with a lively forum for exchanging ideas and unparalleled opportunities to engage deeply with art and culture. Education Interns will learn how to conduct in-depth research on various case studies across global educational institutions and non-profit arts organizations, and how to develop programs such as interactive workshops, participatory activities, and artist/designer/scholar collaborations. This internship offers exposure to developing programs that utilize hybrid online/offline learning contexts for audiences who are diverse, multilingual, and global.
Qualifications
- Experience working with different types of audiences (including intergenerational groups, families, schools, and/or external organizations).
- Familiar with the creation and/or design of art education materials and programming.
- Excellent communication, organizational, leadership, and teamworking skills.
- Previous experience with visitor engagement, art education, and/or public programs is a plus.

With an intern cohort size of 15 or fewer participants, each intern will have the opportunity to work hand-in-hand with CAMLab Core Team members in the contexts of team meetings and collaborative softwares. Through receiving regular feedback, interns will work iteratively to develop their final deliverables. Furthermore, interns will build confidence in their professional communication abilities through sharpening their presentation skills, reaching out to external organizations, and collaborating as a member of a team.
This program also provides exposure to participatory workshops, and lectures on media production, and academic research led by acclaimed artists and scholars. Field visits to various museums, libraries, galleries, and design firms introduce interns to various paths and practices.
