Abstract
This lecture examines the Thousand Buddha Cliff at Shentong Temple, a rock-cut Buddhist site dating to the early Tang dynasty, through a formal analysis of its spatial and visual characteristics. It further explores the formation process of the site by situating it within the dual contexts of monastic economy and political events and aims to shed light on the underlying factors that contributed to its development.
