Abstract
The ancient region of Gandhara, renowned as a cradle of civilisations, is characterized by a landscape richly adorned with archaeological sites spanning from the prehistoric era to the medieval period. This presentation aims to highlight the contemporary efforts undertaken by the Directorate of Archaeology and Museums in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) to preserve and promote this invaluable heritage.
The Directorate is actively engaged in scientific research, including archaeological excavations and scholarly publications, to deepen the understanding of KP’s historical significance. These efforts are not only preserving the region’s rich cultural heritage but also positioning Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as a burgeoning hub for religious tourism.
By promoting KP’s historical and religious sites, the Directorate aims to address the identity crisis faced by the country. This initiative is envisioned to foster a deeper connection among the people with their historical roots, thereby strengthening national identity. Furthermore, the development of religious tourism is expected to be a significant revenue generator for the country, contributing to economic growth and sustainability.
